Saudi Arabia Establishes Requirements for Equipment Using Wi-Fi 6E Technology

The Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) of Saudi Arabia issued new WLAN regulations. According to the regulations, the equipment used for WLAN applications should meet specific technical conditions including the environment conditions and the power restrictions as well as certain CITC’s technical specifications. In the new WLAN regulations, the CITC determined requirements for equipment that use Wi-Fi 6E technology.

Thus, in the regulations the following conditions are indicated for Wi-Fi 6E products:

Please, note that this band can be used for WLAN applications under a lightly licensed regime. It means that users should register with the CITC in order to have shared access to specified radio spectrum under the light licensing regulation.

However, The use of WLAN applications is prohibited for oil platforms, vehicles, trains, boats, unmanned aircraft systems, and aircraft. The exception is given only for indoor access points operating on 5.925-6.425 GHz bands in large aircraft while flying above 10,000 feet.

The CITC expects that setting out requirements for Wi-Fi 6E products will make the approval procedure for the devices easier and thereby will lead to acceleration in Wi-Fi 6E rolling-out in the KSA.
