GCC standardization organization has recently informed GSO notified bodies on the additional requirements to electric water heaters in Saudi Arabia. It is related to the mandatory implementation of GSO 1858 standard national requirements with regard to water heaters in the KSA.

GSO 1858 was adopted by the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) and becomes mandatory from September 1, 2020.

As these requirements are going to be implemented through the G mark procedure, you should check that GSO 1858 standard is indicated in the certificate in case you want to ship the water heaters to the KSA after August 31, 2020. Otherwise, after this date you cannot pass the KSA Customs unless your product meets the compliance with SASO requirements.  

Nevertheless, GCC standardization organization reminds their notified bodies about the need to include the GSO 1858 standard to all new certificates that will be issued after June 30, 2020 and warn Economic operators about these requirements.

If you already have the G mark certificate, you should apply for renewal before July 15, 2020.

If the product does not comply with the GSO 1858 requirements, the GSO notified body has two options:

• cancel such certificates or  
• update the list of target countries and exclude the KSA from the list.  

In the later case, the product can be supplied to the GCC countries except of the KSA.
