Malaysia Restricts UWB Devices Use

Nowadays, 5G services are widely used all over the world due to their high capacity. However, 5G networks often use 3300-3800 MHz frequency range to achieve balance between speed and coverage.

To support higher-capacity 5G deployment the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has started cancelation of mid-band spectrum reserved for UWB devices on a phased basis. Thus, the following frequency bands have been cancelled for the use by UWB communication devices in Malaysia:

  1. 3400-3700 MHz frequency band from June 1, 2025
  2. 3300-3400 MHz frequency band from April 1, 2026

Now the usage of UWB communication devices in Malaysia is possible only in a frequency range from 3700 to 10600 MHz that allow telecom providers to reassign 3300-3700 MHz frequency band for high-capacity 5G services.

MCMC Notifications:

  1. Cancellation CA Notice
  2. Public Notice
