India Notifies on Updating of Requirements for the PON Family of Broadband Equipment under MTCTE

The GMA Consult Group reminds their subscribers that in January 2025 the Indian Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) published office letter #5-5/2024-TC/TEC with regards to updating document requirements and exemptions for the PON Family of Broadband Equipment under Mandatory Testing and Certification of Telecommunication Equipment (MTCTE) procedure. Further, the validity period for the exemption from the Protocol Test for any PON interfaces and acceptance for Self-Declaration of Conformity by Applicant/OEM was extended by the Notification issued on June 26, 2025 till December 31, 2025

However, the validity period has come to the end and there is still no new notification. So, it is very likely that starting from 2026 manufacturers of the PON Family of Broadband Equipment will be required to provide a Protocol Test for any PON interface to pass the MTCTE procedure.

The GMA Consult Group will closely monitor the updates to the documents and exemption requirements for telecommunications and keep their subscribers informed.
