Updated G-mark Certification Requirements for Kitchen Machines

The GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) informs about the introduction of updated requirements related to kitchen machines. These updates come in response to the adoption of a new version of the standard adopted by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

The 7th edition of the international standard IEC 60335-2-14:2025 “Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2-14: Particular requirements for kitchen machines” was published on February 7, 2025.

The standard applies to electric kitchen machines for household and similar purposes with a rated voltage not exceeding 250 V, such as:

  • bean slicers
  • auger juicers
  • blenders
  • can openers
  • centrifugal juicers
  • churns
  • citrus-fruit squeezers
  • egg beaters
  • food mixers
  • food processors
  • ice-cream machines (including those for use in refrigerators and freezers)
  • knife sharpeners
  • mincers
  • peelers
  • shredders
  • slicing machines

The standard addresses the common hazards posed by these appliances as encountered by individuals in and around the home.

The 7th edition includes such key technical changes as:

  • Addition of requirements for appliances not intended for use by children
  • Clarification of requirements for remote operation of kitchen machines
  • Addition of requirements for cases where compliance depends on an electronic circuit used for the interlock function
  • Clarification of some test methods
  • Updated interlock requirements to be applicable for all appliances that rely on an interlock for compliance

Currently, GSO IEC 60335-2-14:2009 is valid in the GCC Countries. However, GSO gives manufacturers and importers a two-year transition period to implement the new version. Once the period ends, Gulf Type Examination certificates issued for kitchen machines must contain the new version of the standard. Previously issued certificates that mention GSO IEC 60335-2-14 must be updated to include the latest edition of the standard.
