United Kingdom Makes Changes in Classification of Toys

Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) of the United Kingdom informed about changes made in toy classifications. Thus, drones have been previously classified either under HS code 9503 as toys or under HS code 8802 as helicopters.

However, starting from January 1, 2022, HMRC assigned new HS code 8806 named as “unmanned aircraft” and proposed to classify drones equipped with an integral digital camera or similar under this code. Thus, HMRC separated drones that were designed as toys which are configured to reach a relatively low height and maximum speed, flight to short distances only and totally controlled by the user and professional aircraft that are flown without a pilot.

So, please pay attention when assigning HS code to your product to avoid an issue with approval documents at the UK customs.
