American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists Issues New Method for Quantifying Fiber Fragment Shedding

Despite textile type, they are apt to shed. According to the conducted researches, shedding of textile influences on the environment through the laundering when microfibres get to the waste water. Nowadays, the problem of pollution is acute for global society and most stakeholders of the textile and garment sector are interested in reducing fiber fragments emission.

In this regard, the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC), the world’s leading not-for-profit association, developed a test method for fiber fragment release during home laundering and performed it in the new standard AATCC TM212-2021.

The method allows assessing the mass of fiber fragmentation of textiles during home laundering. This method is applicable to all types of textiles that are subject to home laundering.

There is no hard copy of the AATCC TM212-2021 yet. For now, you can purchase the soft copy on the official site of the AATCC only. However, the hard copy is going to see the light in January 2022.
