Saudi Arabia Reminds about 4G Requirements for Telecom and Radio Equipment
The Communications and Information Technology Commission of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (CITC) reminds that all telecommunications and radio terminal equipment must comply with the relevant technical specifications established by CITC.
All mobile phones, tablets, smart watches and mobile computers must contain CITC E-label. Mobile phones must comply with the Technical Requirements for Mobile Devices to Enable Cell Broadcast Service (CBS) Alert, namely:
Mobile devices must be able to receive all alerts
The alert message should not support any features related to forwarding, copying or replying to the message
The message must support adding a phone number or a URL link
The device must support displaying or deleting the previous alert message as requested by the user
The device must enable receiving synchronized alert messages and have features that help people with special needs
The device must support giving the priority to the Cell Broadcast Alert Messages.
The message should support both Arabic and English
Distribution of the channels shall be according to the Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS)
Additionally, all network-based equipment (including mobile phones, tablets, smart watches, and mobile computers) must support 4G as a requirement for equipment approval and customs clearance.
Moreover, CITC informs that tracking devices and machine-to-machine communication (M2M) should also support 4G technology. However, the requirement to support 4G technology in tracking devices and machine-to-machine communication (M2M) will come into force on January 1, 2020.
The Committee reminds that the above-mentioned types of devices must meet these requirements in order to be sold or get approval.
