Safety Approvals for Consumer Electronics in the EAEU

Consumer electronics products entering the EAEU must meet the requirements of The technical regulation TR CU 004/2011 On the Safety of Low-Voltage Equipment.
What is TR CU 004/2011 On the Safety of Low-Voltage Equipment?
The EAEU issued this regulation for low-voltage equipment to protect public life, health, and property and prevent misleading actions of users.
According to the document, low-voltage equipment must be designed and manufactured in such a way that during its assembly, use, storage, transportation, and maintenance, the product provides:
level of protection against direct or indirect effects of electric current
absence of an unacceptable risk of high temperatures, arcs or radiation which can cause hazards
necessary level of protection from injury, rotating and stationary parts of the low-voltage equipment
necessary level of protection from the hazards of non-electrical origin arising from the application low voltage equipment, including those caused by physical, chemical or biological agents
required level of insulation and protection
required level of mechanical and electrical endurance
required level of resistance to external factors, including the nature of the non-mechanical with appropriate climatic conditions of the environment
absence of unacceptable risk due to overload of emergency conditions and failures caused by external and internal factors of influence
absence of unacceptable risk connecting and (or) installation
Moreover, low-voltage equipment should be designed and manufactured in such a way that it does not cause fire in normal and emergency conditions. A user should be given the necessary level of information for the safe use of low-voltage equipment for its direct purposes.
Who is affected by TR CU 004/2011?
All the companies that sell or distribute low-voltage electrical and electronic equipment to the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union are subject to conformity assessment against TR CU 004/2011.
The following technical regulation is relevant to electrical equipment suitable for use at a nominal voltage of 50-1000V alternate current and of 75-1500 V direct current.
The main list of the products subject to TR CU 004/2011 includes:
household electrical appliances
personal electronic data processing machines
devices that can be connected to electronic data processing machines
electrical tools
electronic musical instruments
cables
automatic and safety switches
electrical distribution
electrical control units
What is conformity assessment against TR CU 004/2011?
All the above-mentioned products require EAC Certification to be sold on the territory of the EAEU. If any low-voltage equipment not included in the list, it is subject to mandatory EAC Declaration.
In case of successful confirmation, products should be marked with the EAC mark. Distributing a product on the territory of the EAEU without the marking is prohibited and may lead to a fine or confiscation.
The EAC certificate is valid for 5 years.
Please, remember that if your product is not subject to conformity assessment according to the TR CU 004/2011, it might be subject to other directives and may require additional procedures to be allowed to enter the territory of the EAEU.
