EU Updates the RoHS Exemption List
The European Commission modified the exemption list for the European Union (EU) Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive. The changes concern both expired exemptions and new ones. Thus, nine expired exemptions were extended and seven new exemptions were added.
Please, see the changes in the table below:
All in all, new six exemptions put restrictions for some categories of products and will become valid from March 1, 2020. The last one (42) applies only to Category 11 (all other electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) that will come into force from July 22, 2019.
RoHS allows to exempt some of the restricted substances for certain classes of products and applications. However, do not forget that the list of exemptions is not permanent and the expiration dates on exemptions are regularly updated. You should monitor the expiration dates on exemptions from time to time to be sure that your product meets the requirements of the RoHS Directive.
