UAE Issues Energy Efficiency Standards and Labelling for Television Sets

September 4, 2019

The Emirates Standards and Metrology Authority (ESMA) expands its current Energy Efficiency Program by updating the energy efficiency requirements for television sets.

On January 28, 2019, the United Arab Emirates Cabinet of Ministers enacted Decision No. 12/2019 regarding the mandatory application of Standard UAE.S 5010-8:2019 “Labeling – Energy Efficiency Label for Electrical Appliances – Part 8: Television Sets”.

The aim of this Standard is to set minimum energy efficiency standards for televisions in order to reduce overall power consumption of the TV sets by up to 50%.

All television sets must be certified according the above-mentioned standard and affixed EESL (Energy Efficiency Standardisation and Labeling Program) label before entering the UAE market.

Manufacturers or importers must comply with this standard from August 14, 2019.
