Recently, the Agreement on labeling of goods with the identification signs issued by the EAEU government in 2018 became effective.
The Agreement is aimed at unifying the process of marking goods with machine-readable and mutually readable signs throughout the EAEU.
It is worth mentioning that the Agreement is a kind of a framework that allows taking flexible decisions on using the labeling in relation to a wide list of goods.
Starting from March 29, 2019, EAEU members must submit a proposal to be considered by all other EAEU participants with regard to the particular product before introducing the mark on the territory.
The procedure takes about 3 months. Within this period, the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) should consider the proposal and make the decision as well as define technical and procedural steps for introducing a new product label. When any of EAEU members does not accept the decision but at least two members do, it is possible to introduce labeling on their territories in accordance with the national legislation and using the general principles of the Agreement. The communication is carried out via the EAEU integrational data system that allows other members to join the procedure any time.
Identification digital labeling allows to trace marked products throughout its entire life cycle and brings certain benefits to businesses. Thus, it allows not only to speed up the processes of interaction between business and the state minimizing document flow but also to increase the competitiveness and protect against unfair competition.
