FCC Publishes Guide for Host Product Manufacturers
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the United States published “Modular transmitter integration guide - guidance for host product manufacturers”. It establishes recommendations for manufacturers who use transmitter modules in their products.
It reminds to host product manufacturers that they are responsible for:
following the integration guidance of the modular transmitter
performing a limited set of transmitter module verification testing
ensuring that the end product is compliant with the FCC rules
performing all additional equipment authorization and testing for technical requirements not covered by the module grant
The FCC reminds manufacturers to check the following points when they are going to use a certified module in the end-product:
consider all FCC compliance requirements
review the integration instructions of the certified modular transmitter and ensure that all the items are properly addressed
confirm that the integration instructions for RF exposure requirements are followed for the host product
get the required equipment authorization for not authorized devices that are used in the product
carry out the test of the end-product with the transmitter to confirm that the end-product meets the FCC requirements
label the product in an appropriate way
Host product manufacturers should be aware of the fact that if the host as a system exceeds the spurious emissions or output power limit, it is the responsibility of the host product manufacturer to ensure compliance.
Although the guidelines will become effective from May 1, 2019, it is recommended to follow it now.
