India Updates Energy Efficiency Star Labeling for Refrigerators
On December 21, 2018, the Indian Government published Notification № 6243(E) on new star labeling calculation for household frost-free refrigerators.
The star level of refrigerators should be determined on the basis of:
Star level parameters
Constant multiplier (kWh/liter/year) – knf
Constant fixed allowance (kWh/Year)- cnf, which should be defined based on the tables of this Notification.
Constant fixed allowance depends on:
- year of manufacturing
- or import
- or sale as specified in Notification, Comparative Energy Consumption (CEC),
The total adjusted storage volume for household frost-free refrigerators should also be used to determine the star rating band and star rating of the model
The table under paragraph 2, sub-paragraph (1), provides values of various star level bands for a particular model. The star level chosen for the model should be based on the lower and the upper limits of each star level band.
The permission for display of particulars on the frost-free refrigerator for one star specified in Table 2.4 of Notification № 6243(E) should not be permitted from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019 for the purpose of upgrading the minimum energy performance level of such frost-free Refrigerators.
The star level plan should be reviewed before the expiry of the period specified under Table 2.5 of the Notification № 6243(E) and thereafter, the star level plan should be reviewed every two years.
