Brazil Establishes SAR Requirements for Portable Devices
The Board of Directors of Anatel approved the Regulation on the Evaluation of Human Exposure to Electric, Magnetic and Electromagnetic Fields Associated with the use of Radio Communication devices.
One of the essential notes that have been adopted is the mandatory indication of the limits and maximum SAR value for cellular devices.
SAR is an acronym that means "specific absorption rate". It determines how much energy emitted by a device is absorbed by a human body. The higher the level of absorption, the more dangerous the use of the appliance.
Thus, cellular devices that are going to be sold in Brazil should have a warning note that the product "meets the SAR limit of 2.0 W / kg established by Anatel." In addition, the customer should be informed that the product should be kept at least 1.5 cm. from the body "to ensure compliance with the radio frequency exposure limits".
This information should be indicated in the operational manual or at the package and based on the lab testing report.
The Regulation came into force at the end of January 2019.
