Technical Regulations for Domestic Pressure Cookers Come into Force in Colombia

On May 22, 2018, the Colombian Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism published Resolution No. 942/2018, which approves technical regulations on manufacturing, marketing, and use of domestic pressure cookers in Colombia. The document establishes the minimum labeling requirements in order to protect human health and safety.
This Resolution will enter into force on February 22, 2019.
This Regulation applies to pressure cookers (aluminum and stainless steel) with volume not exceeding 10 liters and sets out the conformity assessment procedures.
The pressure cookers must carry three labels (on the body, lid, and packaging), certain permanent markings (on the body and handle or knobs), and an operations manual inside packaging which must contain instructions for the safe use.
The label must be placed on a visible place, must be easily readable, and must contain the following information:
Manufacturer and distributor names
Nominal operating pressure
Nominal capacity
Safety notes, listed in the Resolution
Before marketing or importing their products, manufacturers and importers must register themselves in the Register of Manufacturers and Importers kept by the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC). This allows the government tocarry out control and surveillance of imported goods.
The information has been prepared by the GMA Consult Group team.
