New Regulations for Batteries in Mexico

New requirements regarding maximum permissible mercury limits and cadmium for primary power units and batteries were established in Mexico. These requirements are represented in the Mexican official standard NOM-212-SCFI-2017.

 

The standard is applicable to primary power units and batteries that are imported to the Mexico and can be classified according to the NOM-212-SCFI-2017 as the following:

 

Please note that if a battery is supplied as an integrated part of a device, it is out of the scope of the standard.

 

The NOM-212-SCFI-2017 will come in force at the end of September 2019, 360 calendar days after its publication in the Official Gazette.
