SASO Launches Saber Service for Consumer Products Entering Saudi Market
On November 7, Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) announced the launch of SABER — an electronic platform, which aims to register and issue conformity assessment certificates for consumer products before entering the Saudi market.
SABER is an electronic service used to issue certificates of conformity for products as per Saudi standards and specifications. The service is provided under the supervision of SASO in order to facilitate the process of placing products on the Saudi market (whether imported or produced locally). The SABER service make Saudi Regulations and Specifications easier to find.
The SABER service allows suppliers and investors to communicate with authorized Conformity Assessment Bodies around the world.
The SABER website is accessible here.
Trials of SABER will start in January 2019 on a voluntary basis. The official launch of SABER is expected in June 2019.
If the trial period is successful, then it is expected that SABER will become mandatory. However, current SASO Certificates (CoCs) will continue to be accepted until further notice.
