Guide to Kuwait Market Access for Electrical and R&TT Products

Electrical and R&TT products are subject to certain approvals in Kuwait. The following types of requirements can be applicable to get access to the Kuwait  market:

 

  • Safety

  • Telecom

  • Requirements of the Gulf Technical Regulation for Low-Voltage Electrical Equipment and Appliances

 

Safety Requirements

 

Safety requirements are confirmed by the Technical Evaluation Report (TER) and Technical Inspection Report (TIR) issued by an approved CIB (Certification/Inspection Body) and regulated by “Kuwait Conformity Assurance Scheme (KUCAS)” mandated by the Public Authority for Industry (PAI).

 

Requirements for Radio and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment

 

Requirements for Radio and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment (R&TTE) are confirmed by the Certificate of Conformity and regulated by Law №37/2014 and its amendment, Law №98/2015.

 

Procedure for Approving and Importing Telecommunications and IT Equipment is the official document establishing the rules of conformity assessment.

 

All the Radio and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment needs an approval before import.

 

Requirements of the Gulf Technical Regulation

 

The Standardization Organization of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GSO) includes the following members: the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, the State of Qatar, State of Kuwait, and the Republic of Yemen.

 

Requirements of the Gulf Technical Regulation for Low-Voltage Electrical Equipment and Appliances (BD-142004-01) must be confirmed by the G-Mark Certificate.

 

The followin product categories fall under the scope of the Technical Regulation from July 1st, 2016:

 

  1. Domestic electrical fans

  2. Refrigerators, freezers, and other refrigerating or freezing equipment

  3. Centrifugal clothes dryers and clothes washing machines

  4. Food grinders and mixers, fruit or vegetable juice extractors

  5. Toasters

  6. Electro-thermic hair-dressing apparatus and hand dryers

  7. Domestic electric heating apparatus

  8. Microwave ovens

  9. Other ovens, cookers, cooking plates, boiling  rings, grillers, and roasters

  10. Electric instantaneous or storage water heaters and immersion heaters

  11. Electric smoothing irons

  12. Plugs, socket outlets, adaptors, cord extension sets, and chargers

  13. Air conditioners

where “xxxx” is a four-digit identification number of a notified body

 

 

Conclusion: Any electrical and R&TT product can be put to the Kuwait market only if it complies with all the applicable Telecom and Gulf Technical Regulation requirements.
