Singapore Updates Its Safety Mark

September 13, 2018

In April 2018, two statutory boards under the Ministry of Trade and Industry of the Singapore Government were integrated in the Enterprise Singapore.

The Enterprise Singapore is a government agency which acts as a national standards and accreditation body.

As a result, the Safety Mark was updated according to the formation of the Enterprise Singapore.

The old and new safety mark are different. There is a change in Pantone: The color was changed from blue to red, the font was changed from thin to thick, and theposition of the word “MARK” was shifted from left to center.

                        Previous Version                                                 New Version

For new/renewed CoC applications that submitted before April 2, 2019, suppliers are strongly recommended to affix the new version of the safety mark on their new batches of controlled goods as soon as possible. However, the Enterprise Singapore understands that suppliers may face logistic difficulties in doing so. Therefore, it is not compulsory for controlled goods to have the new safety mark if they are undergoing new product registration/CoC renewal prior to April 2, 2019

For new/renewed CoC applications that submitted after April 2, 2019, controlled goods must contain the new version of the safety mark. Registered supplier need to provide supporting documents (e.g. Rating label, product picture with marking, etc. ) to CABs during the application process to show that the controlled goods contain the updated safety mark. Without these supporting documents, product registration/renewal will not be allowed to proceed.

For already registered controlled goods, the new version of the safety mark should be placed starting from April 2, 2019. However, if a supplier still has excess stock of the registered controlled goods with the old version of the safety mark after April 2, 2019, s/he may continue to supply the controlled goods with the old version of the safety mark. In this case, producing components carrying the old safety mark should be ceased as soon as possible

When a manufacturer applies for the renewal of the CoC after April 2, 2019, s/he should provide documentary proof that new registered goods contain the new safety mark.

Conclusion:

  1. In April 2018, new government agency the Enterprise Singapore was formed

  2. The Safety Mark was updated in accoradnce with the formation of the Enterprise Singapore

  3. Both versions of the safety mark can be used untill April 2, 2019

  4. The new version of the safety mark is mandatory after April 2, 2019

  5. For a supplier who has excess stock of the registered controlled goods with the old version of the safety mark after April 2, 2019, s/he may continue to supply the controlled goods with the old version of the safety mark
