Guide to Electrical and R&TT Equipment Market Access in Yemen

Electrical and R&TT equipment is subject to Safety and Telecom Approvals in Yemen. The following types of requirements can be applicable to get access to the market of the Republic of Yemen:

 

  • Telecom

  • Requirements of Gulf Technical Regulation for Low-Voltage Electrical Equipment and Appliances

 

Requirements for Radio and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment

 

Conformity of Radio and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment (R&TTE) with the requirements is confirmed by Certificate of Conformity and regulated by the Telecommunications Law №38 dated by 1991.

All the Radio and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment has to be approved before import.

 

Requirements of Gulf Technical Regulation

 

Member States of the Standardization Organization of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GSO) are the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, the State of Qatar, the State of Kuwait and the Republic of Yemen.

 

Requirements of the Gulf Technical Regulation for Low-Voltage Electrical Equipment and Appliances (BD-142004-01) must be confirmed by the G-Mark Certificate.

 

From July 1st, 2016  the following product categories fall under the scope of the Gulf Technical Regulation for Low-Voltage Electrical Equipment and Appliances:

  1. Domestic electrical fans

  2. Refrigerators, freezers, and other refrigerating or freezing equipment

  3. Centrifugal clothes dryers and clothes washing machines

  4. Food grinders and mixers, fruit or vegetable juice extractors

  5. Toasters

  6. Electro-thermic hair-dressing apparatus and hand dryers

  7. Domestic electric heating apparatus

  8. Microwave ovens

  9. Other ovens, cookers, cooking plates, boiling  rings, grillers, and roasters

  10. Electric instantaneous or storage water heaters and immersion heaters

  11. Electric smoothing irons

  12. Plugs, socket outlets, adaptors, cord extension sets, and chargers

  13. Air conditioners

where “xxxx” is a four-digit identification number of a notified body

 

Conclusion: Electrical and R&TT equipment can access the Yemen market if it complies with all applicable Telecom and Gulf Technical Regulation requirements.
