How the International Standard IEC 62368 Is Adopted by EAEU Countries

November 21, 2018

In spite of that fact that European Union established a common standard for safety of audio/video, information, and communication technology equipment to replace the relevant standards in member countries, the EAEU (Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan) countries are currently have their own interstate standards.  These standards are equivalent to IEC 62368-1:2010, IEC 60950-1:2013, and IEC 60065:2011 and are still in force. One of the reason of this is that the above-mentioned standards are partially adopted to comply with the requirements of the EAEU members.

Let us have a closer look at this situation:

GOST IEC 62368-1-2014 (IEC 62368-1:2010) “Audio/video, information and communication technology equipment - Part 1: Safety requirements” was adopted by Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia only.

GOST IEC 60950-1-2014 (IEC 60950-1:2013) “Information technology equipment. Safety. Part 1. General requirements” was adopted by all EAEU members.

GOST IEC 60065-2014 (IEC 60065:2011) “Audio, video, and similar electronic apparatus. Safety requirements” was adopted by Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia.

Nevertheless, according to the list of standards applicable to EAEU TR 004/2011 “On Safety of Low-Voltage Equipment”, all these standards can be accepted within EAEU members. However, if there is a product that meets the requirements of IEC 62368-1 and the standard was not adopted by the country where the customer wants to get the EAEU approval, the standard relevant to IEC 60950-1 or IEC 60065 is to be indicated.

Conclusion:

  1. IEC 62368-1 is valid within the European Union instead of two relevant standards: IEC 60950-1 and IEC 60065

  2. In the EAEU (Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan) countries, three equivalent interstate standards are still in force consequent on split adoption

  3. All the EAEU countries accept requirements of these three standards regarding conformity assesment procedure.
