Requirements of Gulf Technical Regulation for Low Voltage Electrical Equipment and Appliances
Safety Requirements
Compliance with safety requirements is confirmed by the Certificate of Conformity (CoC) and regulated by the Pre-Export Verification of Conformity (PVoC) program launched in 2011. The documents are issued by the Qatar General Organization for Standards and Metrology (QGOSM) of the Qatar Ministry of Environment (MOE).
Requirements for Radio and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment
Compliance with the requirements for Radio and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment (R&TTE) is confirmed by the Certificate of Conformity and regulated by Decree Law №(34) of 2006 on the Promulgation of the Telecommunications Law.
Procedure for Approving and Importing Telecommunications and IT Equipment is the official document establishing the rules of conformity assessment.
All the Radio and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment needs an approval before import.
Energy Efficiency Requirements
Air conditioners are subject to Star Rating System. The EE label must be affixed on these products. The use of energy efficient label is regulated by the National Program of Conservation and Energy Efficiency “Tarsheed”.

Requirements of the Gulf Technical Regulation
The Standardization Organization of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GSO) includes the following members: the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, the State of Qatar, State of Kuwait, and the Republic of Yemen.
Requirements of the Gulf Technical Regulation for Low-Voltage Electrical Equipment and Appliances (BD-142004-01) must be confirmed by the G-Mark Certificate.
The following product categories fall under the scope of the Technical Regulation from July 1st, 2016:
Domestic electrical fans
Refrigerators, freezers, and other refrigerating or freezing equipment
Centrifugal clothes dryers and clothes washing machines
Food grinders and mixers, fruit or vegetable juice extractors
Toasters
Electro-thermic hair-dressing apparatus and hand dryers
Domestic electric heating apparatus
Microwave ovens
Other ovens, cookers, cooking plates, boiling rings, grillers, and roasters
Electric instantaneous or storage water heaters and immersion heaters
Electric smoothing irons
Plugs, socket outlets, adaptors, cord extension sets, and chargers
Air conditioners
Conclusion: Any electrical and R&TT product can be put to the Qatar market only if it complies with all the applicable Safety, Telecom, Energy Efficiency, and Gulf Technical Regulation requirements.
