Requirements for Labeling of Li-ion Batteries in Russia

The requirements for labeling of Li-ion batteries are established in GOST R IEC 61960-2007, GOST R IEC 62133-2004 and the Law of the Russian Federation No. 2300-1 "On the Consumer Rights Protection".

Each battery must have a clearly indelible marking, which contains the following basic information:

- the inscription "rechargeable Li or Li-ion";

- battery designation:

- polarity;

- manufacturing date (can be in the form of a code);

- name or designation of a manufacturer or supplier.

- nominal capacity of the battery;

- rated voltage;

- information on the conformity assessment.

The following information should be contained in the instructions provided along with the battery:

- warranty period, if any;

- rules and conditions for the effective and safe use of products;

- rules of storage and transportation;

- service life or shelf life of products;

- address and name of a manufacturer,

- address and name of an authorized organization or importer;

- instructions for the disposal of products;

- instructions for recommended charging modes;

- information on the necessary actions of a consumer after the product expiration date, possible consequences of violations of these actions if the further use of the product cause danger to the life, health, and property of a consumer or the product becomes unsuitable for the intended use;

- information on the conformity assessment.

Conclusion: The Li-ion batteries that are put to the Russian market and intended to be sold separately as an “end product” must have the established labeling.
