Guide to the Gulf Technical Regulation for Low-Voltage Electrical Equipment and Appliances

Low-Voltage Electrical Equipment and Appliances entering the market of the Persian Gulf countries (The United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, the State of Qatar, the State of Kuwait, and the Republic of Yemen) are subject of the Gulf Technical Regulation for Low-Voltage Electrical Equipment and Appliances (BD-142004-01) - “Gulf LVD TR”
Gulf LVD TR establishes requirements for the low-voltage equipment intended for use at the rated voltage:
– 50-1000 V A.C.
– 75-1500 V D.C.
The following categories of products fall under the scope of the Gulf LVD TR since July 1st, 2016:
Domestic electrical fans
Refrigerators, freezers, and other refrigerating or freezing equipment
Centrifugal clothes dryers and clothes washing machines
Food grinders and mixers, fruit or vegetable juice extractors
Toasters
Electro-thermic hair-dressing apparatus and hand dryers

Microwave ovens
Other ovens, cookers, cooking plates, boiling rings, grillers, and roasters
Electrical instantaneous or storage water heaters and immersion heaters
Electrical smoothing irons
Plugs, socket outlets, adaptors, cord extension sets, and chargers
Air conditioners
Equipment and phenomena outside the scope of this technical regulation:
1. Electrical equipment for the use in the explosive atmosphere
2. Electrical equipment for radiology and medical purposes
3. Electrical parts for goods and passenger lifts
4. Electricity meters
5. Electrical fence controllers
6. Radio-electrical interference equipment
7. Specialized electrical equipment, for the use on ships, aircrafts or railways, which complies with the safety requirements of the International Bodies, in which the above-mentioned member states participate.
To confirm compliance with the Gulf LVD TR, the low-voltage electrical equipment and appliances should meet the requirements for Electrical Safety and Electromagnetic Compatibility.
Conformity assurance of low-voltage electrical equipment and appliances is proven by the Gulf Type Examination Certificate issued by an accredited body. The Certificate is valid up to 3 years. a manufacturer (resident of the country), an authorized representative or an importer can apply for the Gulf Type Examination Certificate.
Products that meet the requirements of the Regulation should be marked with the following conformity mark (G-Mark).

where “xxxx” is a four-digit identification number of the notified body
Requirements for the G-Mark:
Minimum size—5 mm
Proportions are to be respected
Placed directly on a product. If it is not possible, the mark should be placed on a container
The conformity mark must be visible, legible, and indelible
Should contain a number of the notified body.
Conclusion: Low-voltage equipment can enter the Persian Gulf countries market if it complies with Gulf Technical Regulation for Low-Voltage Electrical Equipment and Appliances (BD-142004-01) and other applicable national requirements of each member country of the Gulf.
