EAEU Market Access for Furniture Products

July 10, 2018

To place furniture products on the market of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), manufacturers must meet applicable requirements of the EAEU Technical Regulation 025/2012 “On the safety of furniture products”. This TR establishes requirements for furniture products and its use.

The Technical Regulation applies to the following furniture for household and public premises on maintenance purposes:

  • laboratory furniture

  • furniture for educational institutions

  • furniture for trade enterprises

  • furniture for hotels and so on

As well as the following furniture for home and public premises on functional purposes:

  • tables

  • chairs

  • mattresses and so on

Requirements of the EAEU TR 025/2012 does not apply to:

  • medical furniture, including special type of operating tables, examination tables, hospital beds with mechanical appliances, dental chairs, and other surgical, dental, and veterinary furniture

  • furniture intended for use on air, land and underground transport

  • antique furniture

  • furniture that was in use and repaired

  • furniture samples intended for exhibitions and for advertising

Conformity of furniture products with the requirements of the EAEU TR 025/2012 is ensured by meeting safety requirements of the Technical Regulation directly and/or by applying the requirements of standards from the list of interrelated standards that are an integral part of the Technical Regulation.

Forms of conformity assessment:

Certification—a form of conformity for certain products compliant with the requirements of the technical regulations issued by a certification body.

Declaration—a form of self-conformity for products compliant with the requirements of the technical regulations.

Document requirements for the declaration of conformity and the certificate of conformity:

  • Documents must contain information about standards, according to which requirements of the EAEU TR are confirmed (if applicable).

  • Documents must contain mandatory information indicating storage conditions and a service life period (if necessary).

The certificate/declaration is valid up to 5 years.

Products which are compliant to the EAEU TR established requirements are marked with the conformity mark (EAC).

The mark consists of 3 letters “E”, “A”, and “C” that are graphically drawn using the right angles, having same height and width, and representing precise proportions of a square on a light background or on a dark background.

  • The size of the sign must not be less than 5 mm

  • The sign must be visible

  • The image must be in contrast with the application surface

  • It is forbidden to use multiple colors or to change the proportions of the sign

  • It is mandatory to apply the conformity mark on the packaging, product or documentation accompanying it;

  • The mark must be applied by any possible way, which guarantees its clarity and visibility during the warranty period.
