According to the article 23 of the Law 235 “On accreditation and conformity assessment activities” the products subject to conformity assessment in the regulated area, prior to its introduction on the market and / or before its use, are marked with SM conformity mark by the manufacturer, if the technical regulations require such marking.
Marking of products with the SM conformity mark indicates its compliance with the basic requirements established by the applicable technical regulations.
National conformity label SM is formed of the letters S and M, respectively symbolize "safety as essential requirements" and "Moldova".

The dimensions of the national SM conformity label must correspond exactly to the following:

If there is a need to increase or decrease the mark dimensions, specified proportions in figure 2 have to be respected.
The mark is executed in black and white or one color, in contrast with the background.
The mark can be performed through any technological process, which ensures a clear and lasting image of the mark during the entire period of use of the marked products.
The mark is accompanied by the identification number of the designated certification body, which according to the applicable technical regulations was involved in the respective certification phase. The identification number of a designated certification body is written at a distance of 5% of the height of the mark under its graphic design, symmetrical vertical axis, the height of the letters (numbers) up to 15% of the height mark.
The mark and certification body identification number shall be applied by the manufacturer or its representative.
Please note, according to the Decisions 807 “On approval of the Technical Regulations "Electromagnetic compatibility of equipment"” and 745 “On approval of the Technical Regulations "On electrical equipment designed for use within certain voltage limits"” equipment should be CE- or SM-marked to get access to the market of Moldova.
And, it is not allowed to affix both CE and SM marks to the products that are subject to the Technical Regulations "Electromagnetic compatibility of equipment" or the Technical Regulations "On electrical equipment designed for use within certain voltage limits".
Currently, equipment that is subject to RTTE Technical Regulation of Moldova only, can be affixed not only with SM mark, but with CE mark as well. For such devices, SM mark is mandatory.
