Cancellation of Frequency Band Allocations in Malaysia

Starting from the 1st of January 2018 it is no longer permitted in Malaysia for the Short Range Devices (SRD) and Radio Frequency Identification Devices (RFID) to operate in the frequency range from 869 MHz to 870 MHz and for the Security Devices to operate at the frequency of 868.1 MHz. It was announced by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in the Class Assignment issued under Section 169 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (CMA 1998).


Personal Operating Service (POS) operating at the frequency range of 477.0125 MHz – 477.4875 MHz and 477.5250 MHz – 477.9875 MHz is allowed only until the 31st of December, 2020. It was announced by the MCMC in Class Assignment No 3 dd. 21.12.2015.

The cancellation of the existing approvals for above mentioned devices will be carried out before the end of the relevant grace periods.


New applications for approvals and for renewal of existing approvals of SRD and RFID operating in the frequency of 869-870 MHz and Security Devices operating at the frequency of 868.1 MHz will not be accepted.




All the SRD, RFID, Security Devices and POS operating in cancelled frequencies should not be imported starting from the relevant dates.
