Decision №51 dated 28.04.2017 of the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission on the amendments to the TR EAEU (CU) 007/2011 “On the Safety of Products for Children and adolescents” will come in force in 12 months from the Decision date.
There are some main changes that need to be highlighted:
It has become possible for the lab tests to use not only the samples of products, but also the samples of materials from which these products are made, which is an important issue for serially manufactured products.
The safety indicators for leather goods were expanded: the content of free formaldehyde must not exceed 20 μg/g, water-washable chromium (VI) is not allowed.
The use of composite leather lining in footwear is not allowed.
The date of manufacture on the product labels must be indicated in the format “month/year”, except toothbrushes. The marking of toothbrushes should now contain information on the degree of stiffness of the bristles.
The restrictions to water migration into a modelled environment of polyorganosiloxanes (silicones) were added related to plastic cutlery and crockery, toothbrushes, massagers for oral cavity and similar products.
Conclusion: Starting from April 28, 2018 it will be mandatory for the manufacturers and importers of products intended for children and adolescents to comply with the new requirements.
