New RoHS requirements in UAE

The UAE Cabinet Decision #10 as of 2017 “Restriction on Hazardous Substances” will come in force in the UAE starting from January 1, 2018.

The scope of electrical and electronic products subject to RoHS requirements in the UAE includes the following types of equipment:

1. Large household appliances

2. Small household appliances

3. IT and Telecommunication equipment

4. Consumer equipment

5. Lighting equipment

6. Electrical and electronic tools (with the exception of large-scale stationary industrial tools)

7. Toys leisure and sport equipment

8. Medical devices (with the exception of all implanted and infected products)

9. Monitoring and control instruments including industrial monitoring and control instruments

10. Automatic dispensers

11. Other EEE not covered by any of the categories above or, and falling within the definition of Article one.

Controlled (limited) presence of the following hazardous substances in the electrical and electronic devices:

1. Lead (Pb)

2. Mercury (Hg)

3. Cadmium (Cd)

4. Hexavalent chromium (Vi)

5. Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB)

6. Polybrominated biphenyl ethers (PBDE)

7. Bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP)

8. Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP)

9. Dibutyl phthalate (DBP)

10. Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP)

Implementation of the UAE RoHS

Conformity assessment procedure for the products that fall under ECAS - is a national RoHS declaration of conformity with RoHS test report of the complete product and risk assessment (if applicable) which should be provided to ESMA. ESMA issues the certificate with one year validity only.


Starting from January 1, 2018 it will be necessary to provide National UAE RoHS DoC and obtain UAE RoHS certificate to put electrical and electronic products on the UAE market.
