Update on the Gulf market access
New rules of the Gulf countries (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Yemen) markets access came in force. Starting from April the 1st 2017 - G-mark with a Notified Body (NB) number and a QR code for tracking will be mandatory.
Electrical appliances are required to be affixed with the Gulf Conformity Marking (G-mark) to obtain access to the Gulf countries.
This modified G-mark is now called the GSO Conformity Tracking Symbol (GCTS).
GSO Conformity Tracking Symbol (GCTS) - a symbol granted by GSO representing the Gulf Conformity Marking (G-mark) along with numerals annotated underneath, being a four digit Notified Body identification number and a QR code for traceability and tracking which is generated by the GSO certificate tracking system.
GSO Certificate Tracking System - an electronic system to register all products that hold the (GCTS) and are subject to the notified bodies conformity assessment procedures.
GCTS shall be affixed to the product or its label (data plate) by the manufacturer, his authorized representative, or the importer under the responsibility of the notified body and meet the minimum dimensions as shown below (pictures 1, 2):
GCTS shall normally have minimum dimensions of 4 cm x 2.20 cm.
When the nature of the product does not allow placing GCTS with abovementioned dimensions, the G-marking with the number of notified body shall be affixed to the product or its label (data plate) and have a minimum height of at least 5 millimeters as it is shown in the figure (picture 3):
GCTS with minimum dimensions of 4 cm x 2.20 cm has to be placed to the product outer packing and the accompanying documents in all cases, even if it is not possible or unavailable to affix it on the product considering the product’s nature.
GCTS may be reproduced in either black and white or in a color form. Also it is possible to print GSO conformity tracking symbol in a single color, which is the predominant ink color, or the predominant ink color of the packaging, or the use of another single color, as shown below (picture 4):
GCTS becomes mandatory from April the 1st, 2017;
GCTS shall be displayed in the appropriate form only;
All reproductions of the GCTS shall be based only from master versions that are downloaded from the GSO certificate tracking system;
GCTS may be reproduced in either black and white or in a single color which can be the predominant ink color, the predominant ink color of the packaging, or another single color;
GCTS shall only be used in connection with a product certified by a notified body.
