Malaysia Issues New Class Assignment

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has issued Class Assignment No. 1 of 2021 that became effective on June 9, 2021. This document grants the right to use the frequency bands for the specified devices according to the stated conditions.

The Class Assignments contain 28 positions of devices ranging from mobile and broadband wireless access devices to satellite broadcasting receiver devices.

Please, note that devices subject to approval under the class assignments should be certified by the MCMC or its registered certifying agency in accordance with the Communications and Multimedia (Technical Standards) Regulations 2000.

The MCMC approval may be divided into:

  • compliance approval
  • special approval

Compliance approval is granted to a specific model of a device that is in compliance with the specified standards or technical codes.

Special approval is usually granted when the device is intended to be used:

  • for the applicant’s sole purpose;
  • for trials;
  • for market surveys or exhibition;
  • for research and development;
  • for training
