
The Ministry of Communications of India issued rules on January 20, 2026 governing the use of low power and very low power wireless access systems including radio local area network in the lower 6 GHz band (5925 – 6425 MHz).
The rules define the technical parameters for wireless equipment that can be placed on the Indian market without providing a license or frequency assignment. Manufacturers of Low Power Indoor (LPI) and Very Low Power Outdoor (VLP) wireless equipment should only apply to the equipment type approval. The application for obtaining equipment type approval is indicated in the Annex to the Rules.

Please note, if any user of a licensed system reports to the authority about harmful interference caused by licence-exempted wireless equipment, the user of such equipment must take the necessary steps to prevent the interference.
