Get Ready for New Requirements to Meet Compliance with Directive 2014/53/EU in European Union

The European Commission released a Decision on harmonized standards for radio equipment drafted in support of Directive 2014/53/EU. According to this Decision, revised versions of a range of standards appeared. The European Commission enabled a transitional period for manufacturers to prepare for the revised requirements. The period ends on August 6, 2021. It means that the following versions of standards must be implemented by the manufacturers to show the compliance of the product to the Directive 2014/53/EU via harmonized standards:

  • EN 300 328 V2.2.2 (Limit change for the transmitter unwanted emissions in the spurious domain for the band 694 MHz – 862 MHz. It was increased by 18 dB -54 dBm for 100 kHz bandwidth to -36 dBm for 100 kHz bandwidth. The requirements for receiver blocking measurements were adapted. The specification of the power for the blocking signal was tightened to -34 dBm)
  • EN 300 698 V2.3.1 (The clause 8.2.3 of this standard allows deviation from the maximum radio-frequency power. If, the sentence “With the output power switch set at maximum, the carrier power shall be within ±1,5 dB of the rated output power under normal test conditions” is applicable, the conformity to the essential requirement of the Directive cannot be met)
  • EN 300 674-2-2 V2.2.1
  • EN 303 520 V1.2.1 (Manufacturers can negotiate certain test methods with testing laboratories. They can test equipment at temperatures that may not correspond to the intended use. However, it may influence the conformity of the equipment with the essential requirements of the Directive)

Please, note that all products tested according to the previous versions can still be marketed. However, after this transitional period, products placed on the market must meet the requirements of the new versions. Products that do not comply with the revised versions cannot be marketed after August 6, 2021.

Manufacturers also should check that their CE Declaration reflects the new version of applicable standards.
