Australia Issues New GEMS for Rotary Clothes Dryers

The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) in Australia has issued the new Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (Rotary Clothes Dryers) Determination 2024. The standard will become effective from October 5, 2025. It replaces the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (Rotary Clothes Dryers) Determination 2015.

The document sets the following requirements for household rotary clothes dryers:

  • Minimum energy efficiency requirements
  • Energy labelling requirements
  • Product performance requirements
  • Tests conducting requirements

The key changes in the new version compared to the old one include:

  • Revised and updated referenced standards
  • Energy label now includes program time in minutes to inform customers about the duration of the drying cycle. It helps them to choose model based on the preferable program time

The standard also focuses on such performance criteria as:

  • Full load in a single operation
  • Maximum fabric temperature limits to avoid damage to clothes

These changes ensure the quality and compliance of rotary clothes dryers with the relevant requirements.
